Hi, my name is Adam and I am a nomad among other things and this is my new blog. Adam is actually my middle name and in the spirit of something new and change, I wanted to go by a new name. I have to say this is always a struggle, to try and put myself out there and explain who I am.
One thing I have noticed, something that seems universal, is this compulsion humans have with expressing themselves with words and concepts. For me, I love to write and prefer to express in this way, that's probably why I like sexting so much. I also like expressing myself through touch. So I would say that writing and touch are my preferred ways of communication.
I had a great idea for a blog that never came to fruition. IchbinAmerikaner. About the struggles and foibles of an American trying to learn the German language. The problem with that, is that I would actually have to stick to learning German, which is no small task but something I intend to accomplish.
Being in Europe makes me realize how truly unsophisticated I am and makes me hyperaware that I grew up in between two small towns called Walkersville and Woodsboro. Whether its someone laughing at the way I pronounced Kurfurstemdamm or being at a fancy Paella restaurant and announcing that the shrimp is really good, while my best friend nudges me and whispers, girl-thats lobster. Its little incidents like these that make realize where I came from. A farm in Maryland.
The truth is, its embarressing to be so dumb. So that's what motivates me, being a big dumbass from small town USA. That's why I love to travel and I always dreamed of seeing the world and I feel lucky that I can have these experiences of my own and not just read about other people doing it.
I love being a fly on the wall seeing the way people live, and I am not sure if that fuels my writing, or if writing fuels me being a fly on the wall. So what happened with learning German was that I got distracted and I have spent the last few years traveling around the US being a nomad. What happened is that I really fell in love with this country. Texas, the mid-west, California, mountains, desert. We have a bit of everything here. I think its time to share my experiences of being an eclectic mess.
My favorite abandoned building in Walkersville, MD.
